In the video above, I’m sharing more from our recent cultural tour of Belmont, Trinidad! (If you missed the backstory, check out my previous post for a full account of the experience.)
This tour was such a joy to create and even more fun to experience. While we only scratched the surface of what Belmont has to offer, I think the stops we made captured a vibrant cross-section of the area’s rich cultural life. One of my personal highlights was the copper-working demonstration at the home of legendary artisan Ken Morris. We had the privilege of learning directly from his son, Glen Morris, who gave us a hands-on lesson in copper techniques. I also enjoyed learning more about the architecture on the walk about portion from Rudylynn Roberts!
This was definitely time well spent, and I felt genuinely proud to have curated a tour that spotlighted some of Belmont’s most treasured creatives and cultural figures. A huge thank-you to everyone who took the time to welcome us, share their stories, and generously pass on their knowledge. And, of course, a big shoutout to my professor for designing a course that pushed us to engage with and organize an activity in our local.
